Men’s Canada U18 wins bronze medal against Slovakia at 2023 IIHF World Championships

Canada’s men’s team won bronze in Basel, Switzerland at the 2023 IIHF U18 World Championship, defeating  Slovakia 4-3 in overtime in the third-place game on April 30.

Saskatchewan was represented in the medal-winning game by Saskatoon’s Berkly Catton, Riley Heidt, Caden Price and Prince Albert’s Tanner Howe.

Women’s Team Canada attending 2023 ParaVolley PanAmerica Championship

Melfort’s  Julie Kozunwill be playing at the ParaVolley PanAmerica Championship for Canada’s women’s sitting volleyball team, beginning May 9 in Edmonton.

Team Canada will be on the court playing against opponents Brazil and the United States  while fighting for a spot in the final which will take place May 12.

The event will also serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. As Brazil has already earned their spot at the Games, either Canada or the United States — whichever team finishes higher at this PanAmerica Championship — will secure a Paralympic berth.

Team Sherry Anderson makes history as first three-time winner at World Senior Curling Championship

The 2023 World Senior Curling Championships in Gangneung, South Korea ended with Saskatoon’s Team Sherry Anderson bringing home a gold medal.

Representing Canada, Anderson, along with third Patty Hersikorn, second Brenda Goertzen and lead Anita Silvernagle, defeated Team Jackie Lockhart from Scotland 8-4 in the final after going 9-0 in the rest of the competition.

It was a record-breaking win for Anderson’s team as they became the first three-time champions of the event.
